VESPAs and other small scooters have become an increasingly popular way of traveling around Seattle. With their impressive gas efficiency and substantial mobility, many people have chosen these vehicles as a way to get to work or run errands. Unfortunately, sharing the road with other vehicles while on a scooter comes with significant risks. An accident of this nature may lead to a diminished quality of life, costly medical bills, and significant time away from work.

The Laws in Seattle as they Apply to Scooter Riders
Whenever a motorist gets behind the wheel, they assume a duty of care. This duty involves following all relevant traffic laws as well as maintaining their attention on the road to avoid causing any unnecessary risk of harm. This duty extends to all other travelers on the road, including riders of VESPAs and other scooters.
Because motor scooters are street-legal, riders enjoy the same protections as all other travelers. As a result, a motorist who is speeding, fails to yield, or is on their cell phone while driving is just as liable to compensate injured scooter riders as they would be to anyone else.
Even if it is clear that another driver is responsible for the harm caused, a case may still fail if a scooter driver does not act quickly. The Revised Code of Washington § 4.16.080 outlines the state’s statute of limitations for personal injury claims. In short, this law gives people no more than three years from the date of an injury to demand compensation. An attorney in Seattle could help VESPA and other motor scooter riders to further understand the laws that affect their rights while on the road.
Injured Scooter Riders Deserve Full Compensation for Their Losses
Collisions between motor scooters and other vehicles can result in catastrophic losses. Scooter riders enjoy little protection beyond their own gear, and merely falling to the pavement can result in life-altering injuries. It is not uncommon for people to experience broken bones, concussions, friction burns, and spinal cord damage.
The core of a claim for compensation will focus on the costs of medical care tied to these injuries. This can include an ambulance ride, ER care, surgery, and rehabilitation. It is vital that claims for compensation demand payment for past medical bills as well as estimated future treatment costs.
However, physical injuries may not be the only way in which an incident impacts a person’s life. Many individuals find that they experience emotional traumas connected to an incident. These can include nightmares, flashbacks, or anxiety. In addition, the incident may leave a person unable to return to work. Drivers who are at fault for accidents must provide compensation for a diminished quality of life as well as lost income connected to their negligence. A lawyer in Seattle could help VESPA and motor scooter riders to demand this compensation from at-fault motorists.

Accidents that occur while riding a VESPA or other form of personal scooter can result in severe losses.
